Winter is here and among us, and although snow is lovely and all, most try to escape the frigid weather and 0 below temperatures by staying warm and cozy inside. Wrapping yourself in a blanket, sitting by the fire, and warming up with a big cup of cocoa or a nice glass of wine with nothing but good ole movies to accompany you. And what better company?! So here I’ve created a list of must-watch movies to enjoy while giving Jack Frost the silent treatment.
1. How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days
This movie is on the list mostly because it’s one of my absolute favorite RomComs, and if I’m going to be trapped inside avoiding the cold I want to be watching one of my favorite movies. When Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive and ladies’ man that bets he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days and Andi Anderson, a journalist assigned to write an article on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days”, cross paths hilarity ensues. With a hidden agenda in each camp, will either party be able to complete their mission?
2. Roman Holiday
A classic, and with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck at its lead makes for an incredible film. This film tells a story of a bored and sheltered princess who escapes her guardians and heads in on an adventure with an American newsman in Rome. So stay up with a warm and hearty bowl of pasta and when in Rome do as the Romans do and watch this all-time favorite film.
Is it overrated? Possibly. Is it everywhere? For sure. Do you just want to Let It Go? Maybe. Either way, it’s a great, heartwarming film with catchy songs, lots of giggles, and perfect for the winter season. Hey, the cold never bothered me anyway!
4. Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Based on the beloved C.S. Lewis novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe tells the story of four siblings who stumble upon a wardrobe that transports them to a magical world called Narnia. They must band together to defeat the evil White Witch that has cursed the land with a perpetual winter, perfect for this frigid season.
5. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
While buried in blankets avoiding the cold all day, might as well make yourself comfortable and tackle a trilogy of iconic movies and it doesn’t get as iconic and beloved as Star Wars. Whether you’re one with the force or not, it’s never a bad time to watch Star Wars especially the best one in the trilogy (in my opinion), The Empire Strikes Back. Plus, you’ll feel loads warmer while watching this titular trio take on the remote and icy planet of Hoth.
6. The Princess Bride
If you’ve never seen this film… well, it’s inconceivable! Another classic, one of my all-time favorite films (and books) and if you couldn’t tell I’m a huge fan of romantic comedies. And just as the book boasts it’s full of “quests—for riches, revenge, power, and, of course, true love.”
7. High Society
Another classic film starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra. With such a star-studded cast how can it go wrong? No worries, it doesn’t. With Grace Kelly as a spoiled heiress who must choose between her three suitors: her jazz musician ex-husband (Crosby), a stuffy businessman (Lund), and an undercover tabloid reporter (Sinatra), it’s quite impossible to not get caught up in the Silver Age of Hollywood.
8. Marvel’s The Avengers
With Infinity War well on its way, premiering in May, now is the time to start catching up on your Marvel movies. With a plethora of great films to choose from let’s start with the first Avengers film. As the first time, we are introduced to earth’s mightiest heroes and the first time seeing all our favorite heroes sharing the screen, this is the film that lit the flame that led to the much anticipated Infinity War. As they take on the sinister yet charming Loki, there is nothing not to love?
9. The Blind Side
How do I not include a football movie in the midst of Superbowl season?! This is an inspiring, heartwarming, true story, and the reason for Sandra Bullock’s much deserved Academy Award. Based on the incredible true story of Michael Oher, a homeless and underprivileged teenager who with the help of a caring woman and her family became an All American football player and first-round NFL draft pick. Try to not have your eyes water during this touching film.
10. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail or as I like to call it the Holy Grail of comedies, is one of the greatest comedies of all time so you best believe it would make it on this list. In this film, led by the Monty Python comedy group, King Arthur and his knights embark on a low-budget search for the Grail, encountering many, very silly obstacles. Sure this movie may not have much to do with winter, but hey laughing never goes out of season!
